City of Boston Mural

Role: Mural Artist
Date: August 2022
Client: City of Boston

In the summer of 2022, I applied to paint a mural on one of the electrical boxes in my neighborhood in Boston.

“The City of Boston first launched the PaintBox program in 2008 with the Boston Art Commission, the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, and the neighborhood beautification program Love Your Block. The goal is to beautify neighborhoods and introduce residents to the artists that live among them.”

Process

I designed the front of this mural as an homage to the friends I’ve lived with in Boston for many years and all the cherished memories we’ve shared. The other three sides of this mural were created more playfully with a focus on a vibrancy and visual balance of values, colors, and shapes.

The box resides at a busy intersection outside the Brigham and Women’s hospital in Roxbury, Boston. During my many late nights painting after work, I got to connect with the local residents, hospital workers, and students who would be seeing the mural day in and day out. Connecting artists with their community is at the crux of what it’s all about and that was incredibly rewarding.

You can visit the box, live on the street here: 721 Huntington Ave, Boston.
