Bose Labs Emerald City

Goal: To create a branding system for all the projects coming out of this sprint collection

I was a part of the Bose Labs team in R&D as a UX Designer for 6 months and my very first project was to brand our quickly expanding collection of on-going projects.

I was given free rein to design 1 overarching collection logo (pictured above), 4 sprint logos, and 8 project-specific logos for the Emerald City proposal. I can’t speak too much about the confidential project details, but after branding them, I really enjoyed working as a UX designer on the set of sprints that came out of this.

Branding Process

I always start out any type of branding or logo work with sketching.

As I get my brain juices flowing with the kinds of themes and personifications that came to mind with pen and paper, I go to work in Illustrator. The four sprint logos have a more illustrative touch and for the Tinman logo in particular, I wanted to incorporate the theme of the sprint itself with a visual representation of fluid human to product interactions. Take a look at that semi-robotic hand!

This project gave me a great opportunity to meet with so many designers outside of my core team to learn more about Bose branding, the rules behind our mobile design system, and what these projects were all about.

I wanted to make sure that each project logo 1. reflected the essence of the product concept and 2. matched the look and feel of real customer-facing Bose apps (B&W only, different levels of opacity, soft gradients, overlapping and fluid shapes, etc.).

I went through multiple iterations to make sure the 8 project logos were accurate representations of the product ideas and that they were visually on brand. I have the final logos presented below and I’m pretty proud of how they turned out.
